Passport to Your National Parks: Grand Canyon ed.
Brought my little passport book on the river so I could collect a stamp from Phantom Ranch.
Grand Canyon, Here We Come
“We are now ready to start on our way down the Great Unknown. Our boats, tied to a common stake, chafe each other as they are tossed by the fretful river… What falls there are, we know not; what rocks beset the channel, we know not; what walls rise over the river, we know not… With some eagerness and some anxiety and some misgiving we enter the canyon below and are carried away by the swift water through walls which rise from its very edge.”
- John Wesley Powell, 1869 Colorado Expedition
Here's to JWP, the OG Trip Leader. After almost two years in the making, we head out tomorrow morning to launch from Lee's Ferry on Sunday, December 18th with ten people, six boats and 280 river miles of what promises to be some of the most epic scenery ever. Happy Holidays to everyone, we'll see you all in 2017!
Death Valley 📷
D knew how badly I wanted to see the Superbloom so we drove out to Death Valley for the weekend!
Superbloom 2016
It's the best bloom there since 2005, according to a spokeswoman for Death Valley National Park, and “it just keeps getting better and better.”
- NYT
Death Valley is currently experiencing a once-in-a-decade (if that) "superbloom" and I really want to be there. Follow the NPS Wildflower 2016 updates over here.
